quality

eat less . move more.

I've been thinking about this concept lately as we've been "cleaning up" our eating. Is it all about just eating less? And then, exercising more? The more I research and learn and experience through my own health journey, the answer is no. Its not just about less... Yes, we as Americans eat way too much food, in general... however, I'm realizing the bigger and more important questions is not, how much are you eating? It is: what are you actually eating?

I've been loving this book: In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto by Michael Pollan
A lot of super helpful scientific and common sense reasoning explaining that its not just about how much we eat, its the quality of what we eat that really is the bigger question. Defining what FOOD really is (aka, not the "food like" crud on the grocery store shelves) and explaining what we are to do about our current social state. (obviously this book is written from an unbiblical perspective of evolutionary progression, the argument would be so much more powerful if he could just say "GOD made us and created our bodies to function with the real food He gave to us on this planet! anywho... :)

Our food system is broken and we are a people are lazy. We (including me!) want all the health benefits of vegetables without actually having to put forth the effort to prepare and learn to enjoy them. I want a pill that gives me all my nutritional requirements so that I can eat however I want and still "cover all my bases." I want to exercise enough so that I can pig out but not gain weight.

So backwards. So twisted.

Little by little I am learning and implementing the things I have come to know... Its all about WHAT you eat. Quality. Quantity matters, but if you focus on the Quality... the quantity takes care of itself...

Little snippets of what is going on in my little head... more to come :)
